The story of the first Transcontinental Railroad that revolutionized and united America includes the tens of thousands of immigrants of Irish, German, Greek, and Chinese descent. 14,000 Chinese workers often performed dangerous tasks, such as handling explosives to blast through the granite Sierra Nevada mountains. To commemorate the contributions of immigrants to the building and completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, the Chinese American Heritage Foundation, along with its sponsor, Union Pacific Railroad, pays tribute with a 2019 Rose Parade Float, on New Year's Day. May 10, 2019 marks the Sesquicentennial (150th) Anniversary of the completion of this great American triumph — the first Transcontinental Railroad!
